Base Belief Change for finitary monotonic logics

چکیده
We slightly improve on characterization results already in the literature for base revision. We show that in order to axiomatically characterize revision operators in a logic the only conditions this logic is required to satisfy are: finitarity and monotonicity. A characterization of limiting cases of revision operators, full meet and maxichoice, is also offered. In the second part of the paper, as a particular case, we focus on the class of graded fuzzy logics and distinguish two types of bases, naturally arising in that context, exhibiting di?erent behavior. متن کاملMinimal change: Relevance and recovery revisited
The operation of contraction (referring to the removal of knowledge from a knowledge base) has been extensively studied in the research field of belief change, and different postulates (e.g., the AGM postulates with recovery, or relevance) have been proposed, as well as several constructions (e.g., partial meet) that allow the definition of contraction operators satisfying said postulates. Most...
متن کاملA Non-Monotonic Description Logics Model for Merging Terminologies
In order to deal with the Ontology Change problem and considering an environment where Description Logics (DLs) are used to describe ontologies, the question of how to integrate distributed ontologies appears to be in touch with Belief Revision since DL terminologies may define same concept descriptions of a not necessarily same world model. A possible alternative to reason about these concepts...
متن کاملWhy Was Alchourrón Afraid of Snakes?
In the last papers published by Alchourrón, he attacked non-monotonic logics, which he considered philosophically unsound for the representation of defeasible reasoning. Instead of a non-monotonic consequence relation, he proposed a formal representation of defeasibility based on an AGM-like revision of implicit assumptions connected to the premises. Given that this is a procedure to generate n...
متن کاملBelief Change and Cryptographic Protocol Verification
Cryptographic protocols are structured sequences of messages that are used for exchanging information in a hostile environment. Many protocols have epistemic goals: a successful run of the protocol is intended to cause a participant to hold certain beliefs. As such, epistemic logics have been employed for the verification of cryptographic protocols. Although this approach to verification is exp...
